Got this in an email from K&N today:

Thank you for your interest in K&N products. The kit you are speaking of does not fit your car. The 3.4 V6 and the 3.8 V6 are two different engines which mount in the vehicle in different ways. The kit was designed to fit the 3.8 V6 only. If you have any questions please contact us at 1 800 858 3333

thats wierd...i guess the only thing you could do is talk to an auto parts store and ask them if there's a restocking charge if you try it and it doesn't work..i think maybe they're just covering their buts..cuz i think it would work...honestly if you were in my area i wuold order it in just to try it on there...if it fit then good..if it didn't then i'd return it...you should find out if your local parts store will do the same thing...and even still if it doesn't work you could get a 3.8l throttle body and put it on your car...i still think it would work though...but i'm not 100% sure as i dont have the 3.4 and haven't tried it...i guess there's only one way to find out though

or you could just make your own and say poop on k&n ..lol..but i still say it should work

Emailed the same guy back and asked if switching out the throttle bodys would eliminate majority of the problem and this was his response:
Morning Jacob,
I believe you will run into mounting problems as our kits are specifically designed to work with the car and motor. Those motors are quite different in HP, one is rated at 160HP and the other at 200HP. We design according to what the motor needs in flow and as you know the 200HP will flow a lot more. I do believe we tested on your car and found little improvement in HP at all. Changing your throttle body may not allow your car to work properly. Again your intake is designed for the amount of air it needs for the fuel and air mixture. Most likely your engine would not allow enough adjustment to compensate for that. You could attempt to build your own intake system using our universal filters however; we would not guarantee HP or ill effects that it might cause. Check the web to see what everybody else is doing to get around this. I’m sure you could find info on this.

So yeah, I've been doing some light research for another CAI and so far have come up empty. I'm thinking my only option would be to build one myself, but I don't really have the time and know-how for that, so it looks like I might be SOL right here. are you friends with any of the local performance or car parts shops in town?? if so ask them if they can order one in for you to try...i think they're maybe just saying that to cover their butts...cuz i checked on a 3.4l impala today and he has the same hose and box assembly that mine used to have...so i dont understand why it wont work...

i think they're just trying to cover their buts if anything did happen which i can't see happening anyway

After I get my car back from the shop, I'm going to look into it wiz. I'm getting the fuel problem looked at and having the fender repaired. I was told around $500 to repaint and fix the fender. [sm=smiley11.gif]So it'll be a while before I can afford the CAI anyway.

you can buy a new fender for less than that and have it painted for less than that....that would be your way to go

parts store again...they can get fenders in...should be fairly cheap..i know mine was...and you could probably get it painted for about 100 bucks with good paint then its just like 3 bolts and a few screws hold it in
