i just got a 04 monte carlo SS w/3.8liter engine..can't hear it run..want to get a muscle car sound out of my exhaust without changing everything..i'm thinking about a pair of turbo mufflers made by cherrybomb..they are a bafflered muffler like the flowmasters..one reason i'm thinking of these is my girlfriend works at parts store so i can get them at cost..has anyone used these and can give me a ideal of how they would sound?

 

 

One thing to think about is the 3800 w/ louder exhaust tends to sound pretty raspy and gross at higher rpms(compared to most other V6's). You're really not going to get any decent muscle car sound out of them. You can definitely make it louder obviously, but it won't be at all what you expect if you're thinking a SBC/BBC sound. Kinda imagine a straight piped GN w/o the turbo.

It kinda sucks because there used to be a 3800 exhaust page with maybe 40+ sound clips of various brands but it was taken down It used to be such a nice resource because it had a bunch of different brands of mufflers and various setups.

 

in all honesty.. the best sound i've heard out of a 3.8 is my own car's single glasspack.. i personally.. i love it. it does sound raspy at higher rpm's.. but so do all of those other systems out there.

 

I like my Flowmaster's personally. But probably one of the best exhaust I've heard is Borla exhaust. 2000_Black_SS has random tech down pipe and Borla Catback and it sounds pretty good.
