Default Massaging 305 HO

While my 1987 Monte Carlo SS is sleeping this winter i'd like to massage the original 305 for a few extra horses. I finally posted some pics of the car in a couple photo albums if you'd like to see what im working with. Anyways, back to winter project, i'd like to get a new carb, intake, and exhaust (dual all the way back). I havent done much looking for specific parts. Just wondering if anyone has any opinions on what to get (or not to get). Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading.

i'm sitting in the same kind of boat but different circomstances...i'd say get a set of good headers as the start and are you planning on getting rid of all the comp controled stuff?

I hadnt thought of the comp controled parts, but yes i'd love to get away from that. And for sure all the emission is gonna be removed.

sounds like you have a good idea where to start. make that engine breathe better!! carb, dual plane intake manifold, headers. i would consider a higher lift cam also. something that is streetable but still higher lift than stock. something down the road to consider would be some aftermarket heads or maybe a port job on the stock heads.

to get rid of the ecu in your monte you are gonna need a carb and a vaccum advance distributor. you are also gonna need a look-up kit for your trans or convert it to a older non-lock-up style.
but the first thing to do to these SS to wake them up is headers and dual exhaust ! they are really restrictive from factory.

Excellent info, i really appreciate all the tips. If i had my way i'd pull the motor and buy a crate 383 stroker from proformance out of new jersey, but wife wants to keep it numbers matching and as stock as possible. again thanks for the great info and things to think about. i cant wait till it is all done, this car will be a Monte of the month in the future (fingers crossed)
