TBH the whole thing works exactly the same regardless what materials are used. You always want to have a rigid tube inside of whatever you're clamping your squishy tube to (be that a silicone coupler, flex hose, or a filter end). You can't clamp squishy to squishy or it just collapses when you tighten stuff down.

If you're trying to mate two squishy things, they sell short aluminum or plastic couplers that slip inside so that both parts have something rigid to clamp and seal against.

Guess I've got some learning to do.
I'm not at all advocating dryer tube here, I was just using it as the cheapest functional example. No doubt its the least durable thing and is super trashy looking.

I think whtmonte is spot on - head down to your local autozone / pepboys / whatever your local equivalent is and walk down the performance aisle. They used to carry everything you need to do this project. If they dont anymore, all of that stuff is available online from several sources.

You really only need 2 pieces of info:
1 - OD of the MAF inlet. Regardless what kind of intake you make, it must ultimately couple to this.

2 - approximate size of the filter area. You don't want to buy a 12" x 8" filter if you've got a 6" x 4" area for it to sit.

Everything else will fall into place as long as you maintain consistent tube size throughout, especially with flexi tube.
