Not sure if this will work on 6th gen, but 7th gen to remove the belt I found this thread on ls1 and thought id share it. Please sticky for those who need this fix, it should work on all 7th gens.

That worked great for me. I've used it a few times now. Even changed out my water pump using that method.

It's doing well. I've been working too much to really baby it the way I would like. I think I may have a worn/damaged spring in my waste gate. I'm able to get 6 psi, but when I open the exhaust, it goes up to 12 then starts creeping down fast. I'll need to get on that. Otherwise, running great!

 

Removing the old belt was easy, it's putting the new one on that's a b.tch.

I used the you-tube instructions, undo the bolt at the bottom of the tensioner, but it required a 2nd jack to get it back together.
I'll try the hose clamp next time, the alternator won't last forever, so there's gonna be a next time.

Why not just put a breaker bar or a ratchet with a 'cheater bar' on it into the square opening provided in the tensioner? Turn it anti-clockwise and the belt will practically fall right off.

 

The breaker bar, I had to try and find one to fit it and muscle it up, however, the method used with the clams took litterally 10-20 mins, the longest part of the process was taking the belt off and putting the new one on.

There is NO room to get the breaker bar in there

 

A serpentine belt tool should be in every DIYers tool box. Some aren't that expensive, and serpentine belts are everywhere on modern vehicles.

If you don't want to purchase one several auto part stores will loan you one free of charge.

Edit: When you change your belt remember to clean the pulleys so you don't transfer any debris from them to your new belt.
No offense intended, but with the tool it takes me an average of 15 minutes to change a serpentine belt - including cleaning the pulleys.

 

I need to replace a pulley, can you take a look at the thread posted in the section above this one? I posted a diagram and need help feeling where this squeel is coming from, cause changiing the belt didnt fix it ; T______________T;
