IMO, for a budget of $1k and it being your DD/only car, and it being your first engine swap (I assume)- an L67 swap probably isn't the best idea. Sure it would add good power, and open up a lot of future potential- but its still a pretty serious mod- and definitely not something you could afford to screw up if you still have to use the car to get to work on Monday.

IMO, I'd do exhaust/intake to make the car sound better - and just rock that until you can afford to do bigger mods on your current engine, or are ready to swap.
