Default Intake Question

Hey guys. In the next week or so, I'll be getting a K&N intake for my 2000 SS. My question is that does adding a throttle body spacer do anything performance wise or is it just a waste of 120 bucks? The website says its suppose to increase horsepower and low end torque but I have my doubts. LINK Please tell me what you think. Thanks!

Did you already order your K&N??

I would advise against it. There is a much much better CAI (an actual COLD-air intake) for our L36 engines that you should get. https://www.zzperformance.com/grand_...ts1.php?id=247

This one will even be a little cheaper (depending on your K&N)

TB Spacer is a waste of money. So is a TB Heat shield.

No, I havent ordered it yet, my paypal is still processing. That one looks pretty cool. What size filter does it take? I saw there was an option for a 4 inch filter but I wasnt sure if you could go bigger. What kind of gains do you get out of it? The spacer and heat shield were actually on my list of things i wanted to get. You just saved me 200 bucks!

I wanna say you can cram a 9" in there.

If you want to just buy that package and look for your own AEM Dry filter after you get it, that's often preferred (as the K&N filter can whisk oil onto your MAF and dirty it up)

A throttle body spacer is intended to allow a higher volume of air to be stored in the intake manifold and thus into the cylinders. I wouldn't think there is much call for it unless you're building the thing up to about 200 hp over stock... but I could be wrong.

Throttle body spacers are a total waste of money...save it for a better mod. :P

Only reason I'd buy a tb spacer is for a place to tap for a nitrous nozzle.

There is a very little power gain to be had from the increase in plenum volume, but its definitely not worth $100+ for a little piece of plastic. What makes it worse is many of the places thread the center to 'spin' the air which creates more turbulence. If you could pick one up used for $20 or so, then its worth a shot to play with, otherwise I wouldn't bother.

Anyone got anything to tell me about the Wizaired CAI? Power gains? anything like that would be helpful. I'm trying to get my car ready for the summer to take up to The Lakes.

Don't look for power gains with one mod like that.

They all work together, just look at it as a supporting mod for everything else you will wind up doing :P

Plus use the search feature, we recently had plenty of topics on wizaired CAI. Also if you go to the intake / exhaust sub section, there is a FANTASTIC sticky post on mod plans for 3800 engine. Give that a great read three times
