How are those Thorley Headers in comparison to ZZPs or some remnant TOGs I see for sale from some 3800 vendors?

I mean, he's got a CAI so he's getting more/cooler air in, bypassed the first part of the exhaust system up until this point (no headers) and then has an upgraded exhaust system. Also might want to get a hi flow cat converter too cause the stock one is quite the bottleneck too!
He doesn't have a CAI or exhaust from the way I read it- I thought he was thinking about getting them- and his buddy told him not to bother without headers- which is wrong IMO.

I said the headers were the bottleneck of his intake/exhaust system
You really think so? Haven't people been seeing better gains from intake manifold swaps for less money? IMO, I really think the factory intake- particularly the D shape neckdown behind the TB is the largest restriction from the factory.

I'm also confused- are you just talking about a quality or build comparison. DT is the only header available currently for the LS4's, so if you don't like how they're made or the price- your other option is custom.

You don't have to but you will see better gains....If your car was stock and you put a CAI on it the gains you would see on a dyno would be lower than you would see if you already had exhaust and headers on it and then put the CAI on. So if max gain is your goal you would be better off doing the whole shebang, intake/headers/exhaust.....don't get me wrong, you will have gains with just the intake and headers, it's not like you're gonna pay all that money and gain nothing cause you don't have the exhaust too.

Well said

This guy sounds like he knows what he's talking about

Yep, you're right. I guess I should try Hooked on Phonics again

I'm not sure, but you're the second guy to talk about a swap so maybe the OP should look into that as well.

agreed the factory intake sucks. i really dont think the exhaust, at least the manifolds are really the issue. the headers look nice and ppl have seen decent gains from them with a tune, but they come at a hefty price and an accursed whistle that many a member have been battling since install. cai,and catback will net gains without a set of headers, but more so with, but all together not worth what i think could be had for the price. i went the cai/catback/canned tune route and wish i had done some research before i had. not worth the money.if i could do it over i would do a down pipe, ls6/ls1 intake, cut off the mufflers and straight pipe it and get a tune. before anyone says it. no the intake swap isnt a direct swap but from what ive seen doesnt require an extreme amount of fabrication skills, and you would have to eliminate your dod. im personally waiting on my friend to give me his ls6 manifold from his 02 camaro. this is all from my personal experience. the cat backs arent loud enough, the cai is so so, and the canned tune isnt worth it.
