Default Gutted cat

Im thinking about gutting the catalytic converter on my 1988 monte carlo ss. Is there anybody there who has done this that can give me some tips or anything to look put for and even if it will make it any louder?

Probably wont make it much louder but give the tone more of a "personality".

Can you remove the cat or are you trying to do this with it still attached?

If you can remove it, you can just hammer a prybar or something in there and break all the material apart. I suggest wearing a facemask. -But in this case, why not just replace it with a straight section of tubing. Scrap yards usually pay money for used cats also so you could be getting the cost back.

If youre wanting to do it with it still attached to the car, ive heard you just beat the hell out of it with a hammer and let the material work its way out. I dont think anyone suggests this method tho. Its worth it to just do it the right way.

EDIT: I think there is a tube you need to block off after removing the cat if you choose to replace it with a pipe.

Agreed, not sure how valuable the older cats are, but cat prices seem to be crazy high lately. Seen a lot of reports of theft lately, especially on taller vehicles that are easy to slide under.

May be worth cutting it out and selling it.
