I would think the extra 0.8L could help make it even more aggressive sounding.
Definitely not- the 3800 is one of the worst sounding V6's out there, especially straight pipe or open downpipe.

If you really like nasty rasp- then I guess you'd like it, but otherwise straight pipe for the entire cat back is too much. Plus its not like he's going to gain anything power wise going from an aftermarket muffler setup to straight pipe either.

A good solid low rumble is all you want with these engines. Nothing too drastic.

Anything claiming to be loud rumble is going to be noisy and raspy.

Thank you guys for all of your help. I listened to some youtube videos and I decided to go with the flowmaster mufflers. I may or may not put my resonator back on, I will listen to it with the resonator off then decide. Again thanks for all the help!

I believe the resonator will just affect the interior drone more than the overall exhaust note.

I think you misunderstood... I'm talking about completely stock OEM exhaust set-up, just without the mufflers. I mean, maybe it will sound bad, I have no idea. But all stock... Stock headers, stock cat, stock resonator, stock pipe, minus mufflers. Anyone every try that?

Well my buddy has a 98 pontiac gtp supercharged, and that is what he did to his car. He has a 3800 series II just like my car. It sounds very good. If it were my car, i would want a lower rumble than his pontiac gives, but nonetheless, taking off the mufflers and leaving everything else got the job done for him. ha

I had a buddy do that in his 97 gp gt- and it was pretty loud, and extremely raspy at WOT. Sure, it sounded mean at idle- but anything off idle was pretty gross. I guess I just don't see the point in having a car that loud that is otherwise near stock (ie slow). Sure, if you were running 11s, and it was actually a restriction, then whatever- but to me, straight piping a near stock car is like straight piping a honda...

So this morning I took it to the muffler shop in town, and got the flowmaster original 40s on it. WOW!!! they were just the sound I wanted! Thank you all for your help.
