flowmaster 80 series
allright so here's what i got, 2001 monte carlo ls with 160,000 miles on the 3.4. recenently i've been haveing issues with my car throwing codes and i found out my resonator has a very large un-fixible hole. so this gives me an excuse to put duels on
now instead of going with two mufflers i'm thinking of just throwing on a flowmaster 80 series crossflow muffler. instead of a Y pipe that would take its place with one pipe going in and 2 going out. i'm looking at about $200 when its allsaid and done, (muffler, labor, custom bending, and possibly a cherry bomb). so is this a good plan or does anyone have any other ideas?

first what type of codes were you getting? but the ideas you have to replace your muffler is a good idea with the 80 series flowmaster if it cut the caust down and it is all feas able. what i mean is the muffler is a good idea on in two out aspect i mean i didnt really thaught about it when i replaced my muffler. good move if it is 200 for install and every thing.but back to the begining what is the code that you were throwing?
Pipe it from the begining of the ubend then put your muffler in place where you want it then put some pipes going to the back then the tips and I think you'll be happy with that. Well, that is if you wanna get rid of the cat?? You could always get a PCM tuned to not throw the code.?? If not, the ubend delete is a good idea anyway and the flows I think will sound pretty good with out the res.
my thoughts exactly, the only problem is finding a skilled person in pulaski, wi, which is in my opinion, the redneck capitol of wisconsin. the bending of the pipes and the muffler is one thing but how hard is it really to replace the u-bend with a straight pipe and an o2 bung. don't want a hillbilly screwing with my car
Well, how serious are you about doing this? What exactly are you looking to accomplish with this and what are your emmisions tests like? Do you even have any tests?
It should be rather cheap for a shop to do a res delete and weld up the muffler and do the piping. Then, if you want performance, order a catless downpipe from ZZP, which you can very simply install yourself (youll still have the problem with throwing the code and the CEL will stay on unless you get a tuned PCM which is 100 bucks after you send your core in.) Its not really as big of a job as you would think it is, just find a muffler shop and they should be able to do the cat back set up for you, then you can do the downpipe yourself (cause no muffler shop will delete a cat from a car) well I shouldnt say none will cause you can find places that will do hush work for a little extra. Anything else, just ask.

the downpipe and the pcm sound great in the future and if i can do the downpipe by myself even better. i actually changed my mind on the muffler though, instead of the 80 series i'm going with the super 44 muffler. in the long run the 80 series was $105 and the super 44 is $73 bucks, kind of a no brainer, now the question is glasspack/ cherrybomb. any good brands?
IMHO, and Im not bashing you, if you like em, get them. But I think glasspacks are the stupidest things ever invented, I would get an electric turbo before Id get glasspacks. But what I would reccomend is just piping it from the rear manifold to the mufflers then throw some nice angled 2.75" chrome tips. What I mean by "pipe" it is the downpipe and res delete, somthing else you could do (and this is probably out of the question but, after the 2.5" downpipe you could upgrade the piping to 3" to get a little deeper tone) (I did this cause the guy who did my mufflers did it for free, and he only went up to 2.6" which is better than 2.25" that stock is.) But if you do decide to do the bigger pipes, you need to remember the downpipe HAS to be 2.5" so you have the proper restriction. Heres a pic of the downpipe and res delete>>>>

The pipe towards the right of the pic is the ZZP downpipe and the pipe towards the left that looks newer is the resonator delete pipe.
Gotta say, makes your car smell like its ready to race...? Kinda LOL?

And about the flowmasters, are you dead set on those?? Have you cosidered anything else?
There is alot of videos of the 3400 with various mufflers on youtube, you can even hear what mine sounds like :P.
If you want me to, Ill give you some links to different peoples 3400's and what theirs sounds like.

i'm actually going with 2.5 in pipes from the cat back. i've looked at some other sites, like magnaflow, and wasn't really impressed with their lack of variety of mufflers. they kind of all looked the same. but if u can sway me one way or the other feel free. i've checked out some u tube video, and one stuck out. it was a red 2003 monte with a single pipe going back, res. delete, and the u bend delete with a flowmaster 40 series and i was blown away thats why i was sold on flowmaster
