I have a 2001 LS monte carlo and ive been looking at replacing my whole exhaust setup. Ive been planning for a GM duel cat back kit, a high flow cat, and headers off summit racing. I talked to a mechanic in town today about it and he thought that if i put headers on it would mess with the computer, and wouldnt allow enough back pressure. But i know ive seen other monte carlos on here with headers... any of you had any problems like this?

You shouldnt have any problem with the setup. You may get an emissions code that might throw the CEL from the high flow cat but it should still run fine. You would just have to clear the code.

 

No offense, but headers on a 3.4?

Unless you're going to do forced induction, then probably not.
Most people don't even use headers on the n/a 3800s unless they're running a crazy amount of mods.

I honestly had no idea that anyone made headers for the 3.1/3.4L engine.

Why are you replacing the entire exhaust? Is it bad?

Well if you guys dont think it would be worth it then i wouldnt go through the trouble of getting headers installed. The exhaust is bad, the collector has split the seam and it wont get inspected like that... plus, i just want exhaust lol.
