Ok. I have just installed a pair of flowmasters super 44's and a new cat. Had the resonater removed. I. Could not install a high flow cast because of the emission laws here in California. Plus the shops do not want to install anything else that would get them into trouble. - had to go with a stock dealer cat because the P240 code showed up. Anyways to make a long story short, I don't really like the sound of the exhaust. It has a raspy sound sometimes. Is there something that I am missing? I have heard other 6 cylinders with upgraded exhaust and it does sound bewttewr than mine.

 

Well, it all depends on what engine you have. Either way, the 3400/3800 dont sound the best. You'll hear MUCH better sounding V6's than these. One thing you can do to make a little better sound quality is install some resonated TIPS. That will for sure get rid of a little rasp, just a little. If you have strict emmision tests, you're gonna be stuck with what you have, unless there is a way you know how to do the work yourself and you can buy an offroad downpipe and just put on your stock downpipe whenever you need to go in for inspection? Its actually a very simple process if you know what you're doing, Im pretty sure its the same for both engines, just different shapes. But do some research on it and see what you wanna do. If you cant do anyhting else with the exhaust, you definetly wanna put some resonated tips on there to get rid of the raspy sound.

 

I'm betting you have a 3800? If so, they're known for being some of the nastiest and most raspy sounding V6's out there.

 

Many say their 3800 performance exhaust is raspy, but mine isn't at all (which isn't to say that it is pleasant either). Mine is 3" stainless, I put a 3" resonator in (24" long if I recall), 2 Magnaflows (with, like, at 50% offset) and 12" long 4" resonator tips. A whole lot of resonation in there. It worked getting the rasp out, but the exhaust is just a really low, bassy, drone.

 

I think you need to add a resonator, and that will help your raspy sound a lot. I replaced my stock resonator (which was an 18") with a Magnaflow 14" resonator. My car does not have the raspy sound at all, I would imagine that having no resonator at all would definitely cause it to sound raspy.

 

i agree with mamonte if you dont like the raspy tone you can add a resonator to help with it.
