hey ive heard something about running a propane torch (not lit of coarse) along your intake to check for leaks. could someone explain how this is done please, somehting about the rpms will jump?? IDK someone help me out cause im makniig a new CAI and a kinda ram air type deal and i wanna make sure it isnt leaking in unfiltered air. Thanks guys.

 

what do exhasut leaks have to do with your intake???

what they guy at the muffler shop did to mine was start the car, take a rag and hold it over the tip for a second. i think if theres no leak it stutters, if theres a leak nothing will happen cause there is somewhere for it to go.

im not a mechanic. lol

he really did do the rag thing, but idk what he was looking for.

when you install your intake, make sure to clean the tubing conections with rubbing alcohal. this insures a good seal.

Turn your intake tube upwards while its running and pour in dish soap and fill the intake with water from a garden hose/ bucket. Bubbles will come out if there is a leak. Either way you need a new engine.

 

did that yesterday! now I need a new ingine:p

Yes, it is common- take the propane and go around any gasket, seal, or coupler in the intake (kinda hard to test near the filter area though)- the idle will noticeably change if there is a leak and its sucking the propane in. Just keep in mind that propane is heavier than air, so it will sink down. Its not a big deal up on the engine itself as it will just roll down the sides of the engine and to the ground- but over by the filter, you've got to think where the gas is running when it comes out (especially if you're trying to test a piece of vertical piping if your filter is at the bottom).
