I simply have flowmaster 40's on mine, but, I plan to get the u-ben removed and the resonator replaced with a high flow race muffler or a glass pack.

I have Flowmaster 40's on my 3.8 engine and I am very pleased with the sound.

I got an SLP Powerflo cat-back exhaust, I will be adding a 3 inch down pipe and ported ceramic exhaust manifold.

I got a 01 monte ss, I got a custom set up. I have 2 1/2 all the way back with a high flow cat. When I got it back HOLY **** it was loud. So I took it back and had them put a baffle in it. It's better now, and I notice a nice power gain just in how fast it gets up to speed. I didn't go with flowmaster or magna flow or any big named brand. I have 2 vortex mufflers on mine. i like the sound, it's still on the louder side of things. I also have a simaler set up on my 88 cutlas ceria I.S. it also has a 3.8. it an old version but ppl say it louder than my monte. But either way at an idle, they both are quite and have a nice rumble to it. My cutlas has been mistaken for a v-8 instead of a v-6.

I went with the Magnaflow system. When I arrived at the shop I chose to have it put on, they had another SS there thay had just did some work on a 2001 SS). After they did my exhaust, they let me here both systems. They sounded EXACTLY alike. Seemed to have the same power, too. All they did was delete the resonator with a straight pipe, then replaced the stock mufflers with a set of in-house turbos. They showed me the bill for the other guys car and it was $172 total (and that included the two chrome tips they installed). Just a suggestion!
