soo i just got an 87 monte ss from the original owner. sadly he cut the exhausts after the X pipes so now i woud like to buy a system from the cat back. problem is i dont know which one to buy. i have a choice between a flowmaster 2.50 inch single inlet and outlet muffler with x piping and a Dynomax 2.25 sinlge inlet and outlet muffler with split rear exit. honestly i dont really know the diffrence performance wise. i figured this was the only way to find out. im 23 and im new to this game. ill take any advice i can get. feel free to refer any other type of exhaust systems. thanks for reading.

oo that's a hard one the... i was goin to sugest headers and do dual 2.5 with cherry bombs and dumps right befor the rear axle, but since your state does emmisions testing thats a whole diff game

is the dynomax kit Jegs part #289-89017 if so that won't work becuase it is Manifold back which would make it so you would get rid of your cat= you fail emmisions

Dynomax cat vback(Jegs part#289-17423)is what you would need but significantly more

Jegs cat back( Jegs part# 555-30412) is another option for cat back and is significantly less than the dynomax,

i just looked in jegs becuase that's the closest mag near me i'd check out summit also even go talk with a local exhaust shop they may do it cheaper than what you could buy it for
if your motor is stock 2.25 is sufficient but 2.5+ would let it breath alittle better anything over 3in would be overkill and just basically be a noise maker

 

this is the website to the choice of exhausts i have. i found the same three choices in multiple websites for the same price. what do you think? im not to worried about performance wise bc thats not my goal this time around. im more conscerned about the tune of the exhaust. i would like the deep rumble vs like you said loud noise. headers would b nice too but i rather hold back on those until the next motor.
