The man is right. Unless you are making mega HP you don't need that much diameter. 500 cubic inch Pro Stocks only run 2 5/8 and they turn amost 10,000 rpm.

On another note, I had my resonator eliminated and boy do I love it. Not really loud unless you mash it. Has a nice rumble to it. I was afraid to try it, but glad I did now.
