Default Air Intake??

Hey guys, so I was browsing and I found a pic of my kind of engine (3.4L) with a modded Intake...He just removed the Air Intake box and replaced the box with a filter....How does that exactly work? I mean, won't the filter just move around because its not attached to anything? I'd like to do that, but I dont know how I would do it...What would I attach the filter to so that it wont bounce all over the place?

Heres the pic

thirsty thursday treating you well kweef?! haha

you can build that air intake like you say but you will be sucking all the hot air from the engine. engines like cool, dense air. i would recommend building an insulated box around it to shield from all the hot air and make it only draw cool air from behind the headlight. there are products out there you can buy instead of building your own but i can't think of any right now (i have an 07) since it's early and i'm HUNGOVER from being drunk, haha. (sounds like us MCF members are worthless on the weekend lol)

in the mean time, use the search tool for some answers. there are tons of threads on this topic and i'm sure you will find lots of info.

Yeah that's just a gutted airbox with a small cone attached to it. You can see that they coupled the filter to the stock piping. Basically that's all hot air and robs you of performance, not a good approach.

I bet it's better than the restrictive stock intake though, yes?

Honestly I don't think it is.

Just would sound nicer.

The stock intake isn't necessarily all that restrictive on a stock engine though. If all it took was a larger filter area to have the engine make more power, they could've simply designed a larger box at the factory.

Sure flow is probably a little bit better than stock, but now instead of cool ambient air from behind the headlight- it has to suck in heat coming off the exhaust crossover pipe when stopped, and hot radiator fan wash when moving.
