ok... having a 96 Z myself i have tried a few things... if you want to keep the system cheep then keep your stock cat, get a magnaflow muffler 2.5" dia and about 16" long... then exit to a side pipe on the pass. side. (pass side cause the fuel lines are on the drv side!)

the system i have right now is: high flow cat,a magnaflow muffler, 2.5 piping, glass pack, two tips at the back. i loved the side pipe but the interior sound was too much for my friends... and i like to drive... also road trips would be hell. so thats why i went with the full system.... if you want to hear it click my link and on pg 2 i have a video of the car at the track. car deff has a deep sound at idle and impressive on the road.
