86 Monte ss ehaust
Hey guys and gals, I'm new to the forum and would like the opinion from you. I just purchased an 86 Monte Carlo ss for my son and would like to start making some mods with him. I'd like to start with the exhaust system.
Wanted to know what sounds and looks the best. Thanks for the time.

I have an '87. It's pretty heavily modded though. I don't have much of an exhaust system. I have headers, and the 2 chamber Flowmaster mufflers bolted directly to the header. That is it!!! Yes it's very loud, and very illegal. Luckily I have a source to get inspections passed, as much of my car isn't legal.

i have a 88 ss with a highly modified 400 sbc and for my exhaust i am running a set of hedman headers in to a 3 inch pipe with delta flow 50 series mufflers dumping out front of the rear tires !!! but if you are running a 305 H.O . i would go with some headers with a 2.25 or 2.5 pipe a good set of mufflers just make sure wherever you go to get the exhaust done that they do a true dual and not that y-pipe crape.

3" is too big for that 305. stick with the factory 2.25" and it won't hurt a bit. even a 350 doesn't need the 3" pipes. For the ease of install take a look at www.pypesexhaust.com and use Flowmaster 40s. Nice tone and only minor interior resonance. Dynomax also makes a cat back but I din't care for the muffler, it was too quiet.

yea man dont do a 3 inch. i wouldnt even think about a three inch un less i was heavily modified. and i mean heavily modified. u need sum kind of back pressure man becuase u are a naturally asperated car. keep it to a max of 2.5 just incase u plan on doin sum mods. def go with stainless steel. its a bit more pricey but itz way worth it cuz u wont have to replace the exhause after three years...it doesnt rust and looks great......go with hooker or flowmaster. hooker will give u awesome flow and a great sound at high rpms but lows stay deep and well, low. not to much interior noise at all. i love hooker. go with long tube hooker headers stainless and do straight pipes back or a tru duel exhaust. if u want to be legal get a nice set of shorties and sum pipes with a flowmaster or hooker muffler.man exhausts are like my specialties.i love exhausts....let me kno wat happens...
