Default z34 3.4 vs SS3.8

Ok I was wondering if anyone has driven both the z34 monte 5th genwith the 3.4 DOHC and the ss monte 6th gen with the 3.8. On paper the z34 has 15 more horsepower but loses 5 lb ft of torque to 3.8. My questions is which is faster? On the internet the 0-60 numbers and 1/4 mile numbers differ for both and both cars are around the same times 7.5-8 seconds 0-60 and 15.5-16 seconds 1/4 mile. That is just on the web tho.

I work with a guy that has a '98 Monte Z34. I'll have to talk him in to letting me trounce on him to see how it runs. I've never driven one, but I know my old '01 SS LE with the 3.29 gears was quick off the line. Don't know what the Z34 has for gears. Anybody know?

The 98 z34s are 3.8s too I think. The 3.4 DOHC ended in 97 so it would have to be pre 97. 97 would be the best to test against because it had the most power, plus thats what I have. lol. And the axel ratio is 3.43 in mine.

Maybe I can find someone in my area with an SSand go head to head. The only time I have ever had a chance to race one was when I had 3 other people in the car and we were going up hill. I stayed even but I dont know if the other guy was trying.

I'm not as quick as I could be. I've got at least 150#'s of added electricals in my car: 2nd battery, TONS of wiring, factory deck in the back, 12" sub w/box, Dynamat everywhere in the back, power invertor, etc.

I don't know if anyone with the 3.4 DOHC has track times, but my BONE STOCK 2000SS with 3800 engine, about 125 lbs of subs and amps, and 170,000 miles ran a 16.08@86 mph in the 1/4.

Maybe someone with a 3.4L can chime in to give us an idea of how they compare...
