If you`re talking about the molding going down the center of the door, definitely take it off.

As for it stopping dirt above or below the line, what difference does it make? The car is still dirty. Besides a dirty Monte give some of us an excuse to go out and detail the car.

using a what? damage to the paint! scratches and chips and gouges! holy chit! try something else like fishing string or idk but a putty knife or razor blade! ull murder the paint job!

edit:whoops sry forgot that u were painting it! but still b careful not to gouge the door as well
haha, ya, i'm getting it a face lift you might say! even then some adhesive remover in lower doses shouldnt harm the paint at all, an for the heat, it will "melt" the double sided tape thats holding it, IF thats whats holding the moulding down

On the Dale Jr editions, the moulding is black and is overtop of the top stripe in the black DEI stripes. Kinda disappears when you`re not looking for it since the moulding and the stripe are the same color. But when youdo notice it, it looks kinda stupid. I can't take it off without destroying the DEI stripes. And I don't feel like spending $500 per side to replace them. You can see a little piece of the moulding in my avatar pic.

I don't think the moulding prevents as many door dings as people think they do. Only works with cars of a specific height. I still say take it off.

Kind of ironic these decals are $500/side. But you can purchase the Winner Circle decals for your Monte Carlo from gmpartsdirect for like $60/side.

I would say if the car is a daily driven vehicle and it matches the color of the car... Leave it. Any added protection from the idiots on the road and in parking lots is welcome. Especially if it does not take away from the look of the vehicle.
