If you're interested in it because they say it's a Pace Car, be very careful before buying it. It may be a real Pace Car. But it could also be a clone. There are a lot of fakes out there.
Many people took their regular, everyday red Monte Carlo, bought some of the pace car stuff, slapped it on their car and called it a Pace Car.

You can also run the VIN number through Comp Nine's VIN decoder. It'll tell you everything the car came with from the factory.

But as a car to buy, in general, it depends on what you're comfortable with. Yes, the 3800 Series II engines do run trouble free for a long time. But obviously if a previous owner was racing with it on the weekends, that's going to really cut down on the engine's life. Have a mechanic take a good look at it before you commit! You don't want to have to replace the engine 6 months down the road.
Also, even if it is a real Pace Car. Don't buy it because you think it'll be a collector's item. I can assure you none of the 2000-2005 pace cars or nascar driver signature series Monte Carlos will be a collector's item in our lifetime. So save your money if you think you'll be getting rich from it some day. You won't.
Good Luck!
