Would people know...?

Reading some of the stories about "missed connections" and driving around town lately, watching all of the "non descript" daily drivers carry people to and from places ... and trying to decide on a newer car (be it a newer one for winter and road trips or an older one for winter only), I've been wondering how many people I see in the "daily driver" type cars are actually car enthusiasts, with a "sunny day" only car (or cars) at home, etc.
In other words, if you have "toys" (namely, vehicles that are driven only on sunny days, etc.), would people know that you are an enthusiast by what you drive daily/to work? Or, like me, is one of your "toys" your current daily driver?
Just curious....
*pauses*
Course, it depends on your definition of enthusiast.... Sometimes, I get the feeling that people are only considered enthusiasts if you modify your car or have a car that is all-original and/or in perfect condition ... none of which I have. I know this isn't the case, but it seems that way at times....

Dude, if you don't have a Hot Rod in your garage then you ain't ****.
I actually never really cared how "die hard" some people are with their vehicles. For me it is just an interest and something I enjoy doing.

I think this is a tough question to answer.
Being a car guy I know I have other toys at home. A few other people know it as well. does the general public know this about me? I'm not real sure?

When I had my 65 SS Chevelle in top condition, I wouldn't care that I was rolling in a 1990 Corolla. I knew what I had at home.
I also knew that I also had Yamaha 1200 that could blow the doors off of any Porsch or BMW or anything else.
In L.A. I see pretty decent looking people in daily drivers like old Tercels or old Toyota pickups before they were Tacoma's.
I say to myself, I bet that guy owns a Denali or a primo '57 Chevy like RJ. But he uses this Tercel to get good mileage and the money he saves supports his car habit.
I never try to judge someone by their daily driver. Every other person here owns some kind of bitchn' car or boat or RV or OHV's or jet skis.

I doubt anyone who doesn't know me personally has any idea what I may have at home. I do know there are times when some young kid in a [sm=icon_quiet.gif] mommy and daddy bought, and I am in the Z34, that I wish I had either my 06 SS or my 89 Firebird (slightly modified[sm=grinangel.gif]) to show them whata realcar can really do.[sm=gears.gif]Not that the Z34 is a slouch but no mods 150K on the ticker.
People who know me gave me a hard time for years cause they know what's setting at my house and they saw me riding my 10 speed.
I loved riding the bike. And it kept me in good shape, "For The Ladies."
(hahahahaha)

I used to live a couple blocks away from a high school, with plenty of mommy and daddy bought cars. The most popular mommy and daddy bought, were mustangs. Some of the real smart a$$es would see me drivin by every day in my 1991 Cavalier Z24 (I was in my early 20's at the time), and pull some real stupid moves to impress their friends and make me look dumb. Little did they know my Z24 was "slightly modified[sm=grinangel.gif]", but didn't look it. My Z24 had as much HP as my present Monte does, thanks to some hard work on my part. Embarassing them infront of their friends was sweet!
As for the original topic... If a gorgeous woman drives by in a mint '57 Chevy convertible, and the first thing you notice is the car...you're a car nut!

I'd say that it's pretty tough to deicde if someone has a nice car at home. I would rather drive a nice car everyday, my Monte is my daily driver and if I ever end up with a nicer car I will probably be driving the nicer car most of the time. I don't care about putting mileage on a car, I'm about to roll over 40K on my monte and I've had it for just over a year.

See....ya'll get it.
You just never know when that guy in the Accord next to you knows that he has a car just like yours at home. And ... that's kinda cool and frustrating at the same time.... Think of all the missed conversations when people don't realize what you have at home....
*sighs*
Or something like that, anyway ... he he
