Smile What's a good price to sell my Monte for?

2003 Monte Carlo SS. Soon to be 255,000 miles. What's a good price to sell it for considering the condition? KBB and NADA have it for $4800 private in fair condition. Has some body rust around wheel wells. Transmission will need rebuilt or replaced due to NEVER being flushed ( slips every now and then). Slight oil drip due to needing valve cover gaskets. The only major parts I've had to ever replace were the Radiator and Water pump. Everything else has the original 255,000 miles on it. What's a good selling price to be fair? Thanks

It's just strange how they say $4800 with 255,000 miles lol so I'm looking for a ball park estimate. I don't wanna screw someone over or get low balled. Some dealerships offered me $500 while others offered me $3,000

Because KBB doesn't take into account maintenance costs and bodywork - it just asks for condition of good, fair or poor (well those are widely open to interpretation). I had both my rear wheel wells fixed because I had rusting, and it was about a grand. Transmission will be about 8 or 900. Plus high mileage turns a lot of people away - even though these 3800 engines run forever.

I'd say maybe 2,500 would be fair.

The 3800s are one of the best engines. Keep up on everything and they last FOREVER!!

Considering the mileage, the rust and tranny issues. If someone was offering you $3000, I'd take it. Just my opinion though. Get as much out of it as you can. Good luck with your sale.

I second that. Here's some info that *might* help you on your decisions of value:
- I bought my '04 Monte SS in '08 with 52K on the odometer for $9500 after all the taxes and fees.
- December of '10, my wife and I bought a '05 Impala (like the Monte, another W-body car). It had the 3400 not the 3800 and 150K on the odometer and a bad trans (like you mentioned, it had some slipping). We paid $500 for the car and $1200 to have a salvage trans put into it. $1700 to start, then I did some maintenance (plugs, wires, fuel filter, oil change), add say $300. $2000 + title and license fees.

No matter how good a drivetrain is, you are selling a '03 with 255K miles on it. That's a TOUGH amount of miles to sell anyone on even if the car looked and ran like new. With a bad trans I personally think you are looking at $500-$1000 to sell it yourself. Just a guestimate based on what I see in this thread and my experiences.
