I'd read the 3.5 Liter V6 outputs 210HP to the crank. Of course that's a rounded estimate, it might in fact be 212 on a dyno, because all cars will vary by a few HP. Only way you're getting 224 is if you've modded it.

I have a one owner black 1995 Monte Carlo LS.

I thought about putting a white number 3 on the side. But the thought passed.

I like that, the 5.3 V8 has the thirst of a V6 with the thrust of a V8.

I saw someone post they had a 7th Gen...I just assume I have a 6th gen since it is an '06 SS.

The 5.3 V8 has what they call displacement on demand...not real sure how the technology works but once you hit cruise speed, you go into 4 cyl mode. I am sure it is more than keeping the RPMs low since your are cruising but just keeping the RPMs down helps me get more MPG out of my 1996 Mercury Cougar XR7.

Not a Ford fan but I needed a used car when I was away from the family and I bought it for $5K and it had 46K miles in 2003. I keep in decent shape...body is not the best...and I had to dropping a different engine when the oil pump gave out as I was driving across country...that sucked!

I bought the '06 SS to replace it and now one of my kids may get the Cougar because they do not take car of their cars. I was looking at the plugs in the '06 SS...not sure whether I will do those myself or not.

The 2006-2007 Monte Carlos are the 7th and final genneration. 6th generation is 2000-2005, 5th generation is 1995-1999, then I don't know what years the 4th Generation runs. And I didn't know the 5.3 was able to turn half its cylinders off on cruising speed...Hmm, maybe that's how it gets a 29MPG highway rating.
