Used Car Biz Drying Up
It's 2014 now and I just bought an 02 Monte SS Limited Edition (88500km) for about $5000.00. I'd been driving a 99 Malibu for the last 10 (still runs great) but in helping my father-in-law sell his car (he's getting to old) I started realizing that there are some mice cars for under $5000.00.
My mechanic loves my Monte. I asked him about fixing up my Malibu for selling but he said it's not worth it. There are government programs to junk your old car for up to $2000 in rebates on greener transportation. BC SCRAP-IT Program
And actually, a lot of independent mechanics like him, as well as used car lots have been closing up and moving out of the high rental spaces in the city. He says a lot of cars are selling for much less than what they are worth because of falling demand. I found this car listed on craig's list (very similar to mine) for $11,995
Anyone else noticing this trend where they live?
