Under hood insulation ?
Morning ladies and gents.
Hope all of u enjoyed the 4th of July.
I was curious to know what u all think of the insulation that is u der he hood of your ride. My monte is a 86 ss with a 350 chevy small block putting out about 340 hp. I have headers as well. My insulation was falling apart and making a mess all over the engine. I too. It out yesterday and cleaned up the hood. I was thinking about not putting another back in. Are these just used for noise levels or does protect the paint from the heat of the motor. I heard answers from both sides.

My engine (5.3 LS4) -
Due to my MPD hood I have no insulation, have had no problems with noise, ect...
Your results may vary due to the generation of your ride

i removed mine on my 04 monte carlo and i have a turbo under the hood making 500whp with no issues.... i do have a functional cowl hood though..... if anything remove the weather stripping along the back by the windshield so some heat can escape from there. (i removed the weather stripping on our 2011 cts-v and it helped with under hood temps)
I removed mine from my 84 with headers and have had no trouble with the paint at all. Not sure it made much difference with the noise as I purposely have my car loud...lol
I just put insulation back on the car. I bought my monte with no insulation and in only a matter of like 2-3 months it damaged the pain of the hood and It was bad. I also live in az so the heat from the engine and supercharger plus the head from the sun damage the paint on my hood. Here is a link to the thread with the video of the paint correction that was done to fix it and you can see in there how bad It was.

When I re-did my 83 Monte , I chose not to install insulation. No issues whatsoever running built 350 with about 425 horsepower, ceramic headers,2 inch cowl hood lets it breathe some
Try also going to some local junkyards to find a spare one for cheap and just clean and paint it.
Anyone have a decent hood insulation pad they want to sell??? I really would like to take the pad and cut it to fit around the ram air plenum ( my Bodyshop threw mine away when they installed the MPD hood.
Thank you
Thank you
