Default Transmission Replacement

my 2002 Monte Carlo SS is having issues with the transmission leaking fluid, The fluid has also never been changed or flushed due to mechanics telling me they wouldnt touch it. I bought the car with 150k miles on it. so I just kept running the car. I have gotten 80k wonderful miles out of the car, the transmission is now leaking fluid heavily, and it is not liking to shift. So i am wanting to replace it and was wondering exactly what transmissions work for it considering no salvage yards have the monte carlos like mine in my area... Any info would be greatly appreciated

Be sure not to get a trans from a supercharged car. Them trans have different length passenger side axle and also different gearing. The gearing change if not tuned for will kill the trans very quickly.

So with what you guys have said, it has to come from a 3.8l montecarlo correct? Or will the tranny from a 3.4 work?

Actually, the ID. tag on differential facing to the rear of the car should match.
It's best to stay with the same model year transmission and build I.D. code.

Check out these links:
