Transmission Flush or Forget About It?
my stance is still whatever the owners manual says...
just wanted to defend flushing transmissions... heres basicly how it works, normally the transmission fluid pump pumps fluid to the transmission cooler and then back to the transmission. when you flush a tranny you put the machine in series somewhere in the transmission cooler circuit. the transmission pump pumps out fluid to the flush machine as the flush machine returns clean fluid to the transmission on the return line.
as far as flushing anyything and everything through your transmission, only in the sense that your transmission fluid pump is doing that all the time already.
the benifet of the flush is that you can flush the trans with a greater quanity of fluid than it even holds, leaving you with nice clean transmission fluid. too bad the old filter is still in there. when you drop the pan, change the filter and refill, you only change about half the fluid, leaving you with cleaner, but not clean fluid. either service is better than no service.
so whats best... flush the trans then change the filter

I third and fourth everyone's suggestions.
Have never liked the power flush.
Changing the filter and the 4-6 quarts is sufficient.
Have never believed that they can change all 14 quarts with that machine.
Otherwise the dealers would be doing it too.

The way the Tech at AAMCO explained it to me is they have a Machine which they connect to the Lines going into the Transmission Cooler. The Line from the Tranny to the Cooler is where the Transmissions Fluid will be collected ... and later discarded. The Line FROM the Cooler back into the Transmission is where the New, Fresh Fluid is sent into the Tranny. As the Old Fluid comes to the cooler ... the Machine collects what would be going into the Cooler and replaces what is being sent to be cooled with Fresh,, New Fluid.
There are two large transparent cylinders on the front of the Machine. You see the Fluid exiting the transmission fill-up one of the transparent cylinders while you watch the Other cylinder ... filled with New Fluid ... send its contents back into the Tranny.
Jiffy-Lube offers a similar service. They call their Machine: "T-Tech"
