So I had an 06 SS when I was younger that I bought brand new when I entered my career and loved it. When I had my first child I sold it to get an SUV. I've come across an 07 SS with 197K miles on it I'm interested in and it's listed below 5K with no major issues known. The interior upholstery will need some work. If I decide to make a move on it can anyone provide some tips on what to check for if I decide to make a move on it? Thanks

At nearly 15 years old and 200k miles, pretty much everything needs to be checked. Youll notice the number of 200k+ mile w body cars drops off rapidly. The cost of major repairs starts to exceed the value of the car (plus of course fallout from accidents totalling cars and the typical rust issues).
As with any 200k mile car, I'd also ask to see the maintenance history / receipts. Thatll give you a rough idea of how much maintenance work youre in for in the immediate future.
Specific to the SS, I'd ask about the trans. They're notorious for issues on the LS4 cars and I'd bet its been replaced/rebuilt at least once. If it hasn't been touched in a long time, I'd be nervous that you'll get stuck with the next repair for it, which will easily cost what the car is worth if you can't do any of the labor.
If you do buy it, I wouldnt spend a bunch of time / money on the interior repairs off the bat until you get a feel for how reliable the car is going to be. You'd hate to put a lot of work into cosmetics only to find out its really on its last legs. Also keep in mind that you're not going to get any money back that you put into it at this point.
