I would like it rear wheel drive personally because the only cars I've driven with any power have been that way so I'm used to it but I've never broken traction in a front wheel drive car at the same time so that's new.
That kind of thing drives me nuts when people say that. I think all 5th gen and newer owners have heard that at least once. I get the general sentiment back when the main shift happened in the 80s/90s, but the thing is the car companies were just responding to what was selling.

Manufacturers will make whatever sells within legal bounds. Enthusiasts like to say they want RWD, V8, manual cars only- but where did they all go when it was time to break out the check book for a new GTO, G8, SS, Camaro, Firebird, etc? Its hard to justify making more when the majority of the population is buying FWD cars and SUVs. No doubt there's some market there, but for for the average commuter vehicle that market is very very small.

The other reason that bugs me is its not like the pre 5th gens were rocket ships either just because they were RWD. Stock for stock, I'd bet your new SS is every bit as fast or faster than most any 1-4th gen around corners and in a straight line. No offense intended to owners of older gens, but the nostalgia people build up in their heads doesn't always match reality - especially when you're talking mid 100s CRANK hp v8s.

Having owned (and loved) a 76, they really are much better now. The 76 had a 350 2bbl (145 HP) that got about 15MPG if you drove it like an old man. It was clocked for 100MPH. My 02 has a 3.4 V6 (about 207ci) 200 HP and the 32MPG highway is NO JOKE. The Cavaliers of the day only got 34!! These tanks must cut through the air like a dart. The 76 was a bear in the winter, I spun it out in the snow and tagged a guard rail on the way to work with 4 people in the car one morning. It put a little ding about an inch high in the corner on the bumper, everything else (and everyONE) was OK. Neither was a race car, nor were they something to be embarrassed about, I liked being seen in both!

You guys are good people I'm glad I joined it took me a while as most forums have so much negativity. Thanks everyone.
Being negative never solves anything, for the most part this is a great bunch of folks just trying to be helpful, I wold bet that most of us carry that on in our regular day stuff as well.

I'd say without any ignorance, attitude or doubt a 5.3 liter MC is faster than 1-4 gen maybe even the supercharged 3800. Really close probably.
