Default Stock 3.8 Engine Cover

The engine cover from the factory, are the numbers highlighted in any way? Such as chrome overlays on them?

I thought I'd seen other people who own 3.8 engines that their's was like this.

I ask cause the cover on Deb's 3.8 engine has nothing on the numbers/letters and I wonder if they were removed or fell off?

All the non supercharged covers I've seen were just plain grey plastic like Mickey said.

The supercharged covers look like the one in the pic. The lettering is silver paint that tends to flake off after a couple years. The ribs are painted red.

My 2000 SS had a chrome type layer on the lettering, and it looked factory.I saw ones later on,like 2003-2005 that were missing the chrome letters.I think GM discontinued it after 2001 or 2002.If someone has a 2000 SS now maybe they can verify this.

RJ
That is how the 05 looks on the LT I got my wife. Just gray and nothing high lighted or painted. I have been thinking about painting hers but not sure yet.
BTW very nice looking Monte Deb has.

My 06 LTZ still handles and out performs her. She loves the wide seats in the 06 over hers but she cant have them.

Since the 3800 was used in just about every GM brand (Chevy, Pontiac, Buick, Olds), is it possible the 3800 series II engine covers were different in certain models?

Maybe previous owners swapped engine covers? Maybe painted the letters themselves?
Also, like I previously mentioned, the factory silver paint flakes off very easily. Mine is now 95% flaked off now. Is it possible the previous owner just decided to rub off the rest of the silver paint when it started to flake off on it's own?

Wow. Nice engines guys.

We're attempting to keep the car as stock or a stock addition as possible. An example here isthe "Official Pace Car" decals you can add to your car.

But we feel if it really is 1 of 1,401 for 2003 then doing this is the best thing for the car.

Also, since I have little personal experience with the '00-05 Montes and their engines I'm not sure what an '03 Pace car replica should and shouldn't have? But I'm learning. (thanks to you guys)

Maybe I should find other '03 Pace car owners and ask about their engine covers?Anyone else think thatmight be a good source?
