Hey guys im new to the forum and i have a few questions. I had a 06 lt3 with the 3.9 liter engine and after getting rid of that i just recently aquired a 07 SS. So after having the lt3 the SS seems a little different. It feels lke it has bigger brakes because the car seems to be able to stop much faster and smoother than the lt3, is this true? Also what else does the SS have over a non SS besides oviously the 5.3L v8? Like transmission coolers? shift kit? anything?

And my other question which is probly a stupid one for most of you guys, but what is a LS4? I assume its a tyoe of engine that comes in the montes? or maybe a type of monte? but what is it and what makes it different? and would i know if i had one?

LS4 is the engine code for your FWD 5.3 V8. Like the NA 3800 is the L36, my 3.4 dohc is the LQ1 and the supercharged 3800 is the L67. Just a production code used to designate different engines.

 

I think it has the HD transmission, which is really just an upgraded differential, Im pretty sure all the gearing is the same. Not sure on brake size, could just be newer brakes/upgraded pads or disks. I know the newer gxps had an inch wider brakes and an inch wider tires up front, not 100% on the monte.

 

if you have an 06-07 monte SS, then you have an LS4 ... and if you have an LS4 SS some things you have for sure are ... leather heated seats, 6 disc 8 speaker premium bose stereo, sunroof, 18 sport alloy wheels which are 235/50/18's ... no change front to back like the grand prix's ... which is stupid because we could use the added tire size ... aesthetically and performance wise ...

but an LS4 comes stock with 305 HP and DOD, displacement on demand

if you want to know more about the engine in your car, rather than the car i would suggest the LS4 forum over at LS1tech.com ... much more about the engine in our cars than montes over here ... not that this site isnt helpful or knowledgeable, but there are many more people there, and the rarity is probably a stock car ... **** even mine is hardly modified over there

 

everything you said makes sense exept my car doesnt have the 6 disk with the bose surround sound. It just has the mp3 cd player with ipod conection. i believe there is 2 6x9's in the doors and 2 in the rear

 

All you have to do is go to dealer and get your build sheet and see what all your SS has.

 

you have 6.5" in the doors, and 6X9's in the rear, and if im not mistaken you more than likely have the 6 CD changer in dash, and its not an ipod connection, its an auxiliary in ...

why dont you throw some pictures up of under your hood, the dash and stereo and then your trunk, and we can tell you EXACTLY what your car is ...

ummmm, no...

6-disc changer is an option... does not come standard...

8 speaker premium bose stereo is an option... does not come standard...

sunroof, again is an option, does not come standard...

additional/separate tranny cooler (mentioned by OP)... is also optional... does not come standard...

shift kit (also OP)... haha.. no.. not a factory item at all... that's something aftermarket you would have to do yourself...


so, just because he has an SS, does not mean he automatically has those items...

oh, and the ls4 is 303 hp and 323 tq, at the flywheel...
