Last weekend I hit a deer doing 60 in my 03 SS The insurance company decided to total my poor Monte. The search is on for a replacement and I found a 2004 Impala SS indy 500 edition. Its the L67 motor with 107K miles. What are your thoughts on this as a replacement, and what size pulley should I swap to right away 3.5/3.4 instead of the stock pulley?

My sister has that Impala, very nice cars!!! You do NOT switch the pulley right away EVER. You must scan for KR, and do modifications to reduce KR before you can swap.

I hit a deer going 75 in my Monte and there wasn't a scratch, I'm sorry you had such terrible luck

That is some bad luck! Doesn't sound like anyone (except the deer) was hurt.

Got any pics of the car? I know as the cars get up in age it's easier for insurance to total them out. Depending what is wrong and how handy you are, perhaps buy-back from insurance is an option....

BUT, switching to an Impala is not a bad option. It's a very similiar car (being another W-body car).

Impala's fine if you're ok with a four door.

A guy that I used to work with that retired had one of those Impala's that they bought new and they liked it. It was mostly his wife's car. I have another friend who has a 2005 Impala SS with the L67 and they also really like the car. I wouldn't hesitate to get one unless you are really set on another Monte.

Thats because he hit a midwest deer, they are HUGE here. My doe and my step dads soe were average sized deer for northern Iowa and They took up the entire box of my crew cab pickup

I would do a CAI, Downpipe, Exhaust, and have it tuned at a shop when I wanted to drop a pulley size. I loved the monte but the impala's are a lil more sleeper looking and thats kinda what I want to go with. The entire passenger fender, bumper, hood, and the frame was bent a lil according to the insurance adjuster so they just totaled it out. The doe I hit was about 170 i'd say, pretty good size to say the least. Couldn't save any of the meat since she was ripped right up the belly and hit dam hard.
