Default Rotten Roters

I'm new here so hi to every one. This really is a great site. I have an '06 Monte SS her name is Betty. I had the usual tire pressure indication problems and I also had and issue with the keyless remote not working unless your were close to the car. They swaped out the FOBS and the antena and the problems haven't occured since. I also am having an issue with the power sterring resivor giving me blow by at the cap. The Chevy house said that it was over filled so they took some out. It's been about 4 months now and the problem is back. It's like I'm some how manufacturing fluid. The realproblem is the brake rotors. Specifically the front two. I had the car less than6 months and one day I had toreally test the brakes to avoid hitting a lady who didn't know how to merge. The rotors warped instantly. I took it to theChevy house and they turned them to remove the warp. I know, it sounds like these people have no clue how to work on a car. Not only am I now driving on over heatedrotors but their even thinner than before. So now that I have the car here in Germany on the autobannroutinely driving it at 120 mph + the rotors have once again warped and stopping is like driving on railroadtracks.Has anyone ellse experienced anyrotor warping orpower sterring blow by?

Hello and welcome ...
I know exactly what you are experiencing I just recently did my rotors here a link below...
https://montecarloforum.com/m_65447/tm.htm

I was told by the dealer that I would have to spend $450 plus a additional $45 to fix the problem so I did them myself for only $125 including tools. The warped rotor problem is very rare I guess because alot of people aren't experiencing it I guess. I'm currently also having the tire sensor problem. I get 0 - to - 95PSI error messages on the dash.

I would suggest maybe looking into getting some aftermarket cross-drilled rotors instead of OEM style ..
I don't race so OEM should be fine for now for me ...

Welcome to MCFs. It must be cool being able to drive your Monte at 120 mph and not getting a speeding ticket.

The rotors if your car is still under warranty I tell them to replace the rotors. They are defective and compromising your safety. It won't cost them anything to replace the rotors with new parts.

Good luck with your car and please stay awhile.

Driving 120mph I don't think stock rotors are going to work for her ... lol imo
Also she didn't state how many miles she had on the car either?
I know they told me since my car which only has 17k that I wasn't covered because I passed the 12k warranty limit for rotors warranty repair ...

Sorry but say what????????????

A 12k mileagelimitation on rotors? You can't tell me brakes are one of the single most improtant safety feature on a car. And they're only warrantied to 12k miles? What a load of stinky stuff.

It isn't that the rotors are crap, it's the installation as much as anything. Well, OK, the rotors ARE crap! Probably Chinese throw away rotors. [:'(]
Spend the $220 and put some Powerslot vented rotors on the front, and while you're at it, put on some Hawk HPS pads. About $470 and you can do the whole car, parts that is. I've got 85,000 miles on mine, 2nd car, and they still got life, but are getting close to being replaced. Pads only. Rotors are fine.
The problem is the installers are using impact wrenches to tighten the wheels, and you CAN NOT do that. You MUST hand torque them to 100#, and do it several times after driving it at least 30-50 miles. An improperly torqued lug nut is why your rotors warp, and if you feel it vibrate without applying the brake, you know it.
Invest in a $29 torque wrench and a double ended thinwall lug socket. One of the BEST investments you can make. Christmas is close, would make a wonderful present. That's how I got mine.

Well I suppose it is comforting to find others with the same problem. I will have to check the milage tomarrow and see where she is at. I will take it in to the dealership here and have them fix it but I am willing to bet that the first time I come down on them hard their going to be trash again. I will eventually replace them with some aftermarket brakes. "Bare" has a good set for the car for about $1500.00. It is really pricey but they are quadra piston and drilled and slotted. I suppose that would slow the old girl down quite nicely. It just frustrates the hell out of me that "From the Factory" something is so poorly made and they havn't acknowledge this and come out with a saftey recall. Let me tell you it is one very wicked ride coming down from 140 mph around a corner with the brakes chatering like chipmonks.

Yea but how do you explain that to the dealer ...?
I have to take my car in to get the tire sensor repaired and they will need to remove the wheel so I'm pretty sure they will use an impact wrench. How do I explain to them what you are saying and for them to actually do it ... I just put brandnew rotors on my car yesterday and I'll be one pissed sonofagun if they are warped after the fact again ...

I'd go with the Powerslot roters as they have the best bang for buck potential and they really are a great rotor.
