Check your transmission fluid. Also, a SES light could be anything - I'm pretty sure Autozone checks engine lights for free.

How many miles do you have? The transmissions on these cars are known for premature failures, might be in the market to replace one. And I can't believe anything would be wrong with the engine...these engines can take a lot of abuse, maybe something is leaking, or electronic is malfunctioning.

the check engine light actually has very little to do with the engine. its usually something along the lines of fuel, intake and emissions. it could be as simple as your gas cap not being on tight.

there is a story about when my girlfriends aunt brought here c5 corvette home last year from the dealer about 2 days later the check engine light came on, she took it back and said hey....it was that the gas cap was not on all the way and was suckin in air.

Yea it can set off a code for anything, could be the Mass air flow sensor too.

is it steady or is it flashing. if its flashing its something major, if its steady its usually just a simple code.

Unhappy

my transmission fluid level is good & its nice & red
i have 101k miles & replaced the MAF not that long ago

the gas cap thing happened to me before because i was being a show off at the gas station & placed my gas cap on top of my bass rattling trunk, then my gas cap fell & was "no where to be seen" so i reversed and smashed it and drove for about a week without it & my check engine light came on & i just bought a $10 one at autozone.

the check engine light is on & steady

i know for a fact that i have a leak in my intake manifold
havnt had time to take it to get checked out
im not sure if its the UIM or the LIM

my local autozone doesnt do free check ups anymore :/
