aluminum wheels have been very popular in the last 10-15 years. one of the reasons is they are lightweight and have some style to them. compared to steel wheels, they are about as strong as steel as far as holding the weight of the vehicle. they are just as fragile when it comes to potholes and things like that. they do however, will most likely break where a steel wheel will bend. some cleanup on aluminum whees can be a real pain the the a$$. brake dust pits the aluminum badly if you don't clean them often. on that same token, they are more prone to rim leaks due to corrosion build up between the tire bead and the rim. being a service manager, when we sell rims we stess the cleanup of aftermarket wheels because they don't hold up as well in the wintertime when salt if used to clean-up the roads. if you purchase a set of aftermarket wheels i recommend (like we do at our shop) to install your factory wheels to preserve your new aftermarket wheels so they look there best. hope this helped you out.

yah, really the only advantage aluminumumum wheels have over steel wheels is that they're lighter, however a lot of the manufacturers are changing from chrome plated steel to chrome plated aluminumumumumumumum
