I think it's a good investment if you can afford it & use it 4-Sure....I know I'd like to have one if I had a complete set of tools etc. to work on my ride...I look forward to seeing what our expert member's post on your thread question..

Without reading too much into it, I'd say no, because you can just go to Autozone and they can read your codes for you for free.

Depends on what you want it for. You could just get this

That can also read CAN codes, and clear codes.

I bought an Equus 3150 recently. Here's why....I took my wife's Dodge Caravan to the shop becuse the ABS light was on. It was dx'd as a bad LF wheel speed sensor. I paid the shop $85 to dx the problem, $75 for the labor and $120 for the part. About $300 w/tax and all. Well, guess what, the damn ABS light came on again 3 months later. I decided to invest in the Equus 3150 and try to dx the problem myself. I bought the Scantool for $160 (Amazon) and pluged it into the van - "no signal from RF wheel speed sensor". So, I spent $31.00 on a new RF wheel speed sensor at O'Reilly's, installed it, and no problems since. It's a one time investment that pays for itself after one repair.
