Radio removal on 02 monte....consequences.....
I need some help again. I asked you guys about removing my stock radio from my monte years ago. Your answers were not to because it controlled a few functions. I only remember one (cruise control not working). Can someone tell me.what the other setbacks are? Reason why is because motor blew on my 02 and I am.buying another and it has an aftermarket stereo and the seller doesn't speak English so I don't know if put the kit on or he simply cut.the radio leaving damage. Thanks!

You must be starting a new profile (as the forum says this is your first post). Unfortunately, I am not sure the discussion you are mentioning. Here is what I know about your question:
- Door chime runs through the radio. If you wish to keep the chime, you have to buy an aftermarket module.
- To re-use the steering wheel controls require an aftermarket module.
- The easy method to reset oil life, tire pressure monitoring and key fob programming runs through the radio. There are no aftermarket fixes. You can either put the factory radio elsewhere in the car and wire power/ground/data. Or use the alternative reset controls.

Off hand, no. Crutchfield.com is a great source for all things car audio. Or you can do an Amazon or google search.
Theyre made by Metra. I have them in my 05. There is no way I could remember the part numbers and I remember it was quite the hassle trying to find the right ones. You need two. IIRC one module takes care of the stereo and speakers, the other takes care of the chime and light dimming.

@Herman Munster just posted the alternate procedure for those items. And I believe the alternate procedure for the fob programming is using a GM TechII (dealerships can usually assist).
There is another harness you could get. I dont know what its called of where to get it but its a really long wire harness. Goes from under your dash to your trunk where you then plug in your stock stereo to retain those reset features.
I always hated installing them. Customers were almost always ticked right off the bat at the price. The whole install job was like 4-5x what a normal radio install ran back in those days (made worse by the fact that 90%+ of the cars that came in only needed a simple dash kit and adapter harness at the time). But it was also always excluded from promotions run for free install. So they'd come in expecting $0 beyond the radio price, and for someone picking out a bottom end radio, the actual install price ended up literally doubling the radio cost.
Then a lot of them would be disappointed with the final product - almost like they were expecting some fancy setup in the trunk for all of that money - nope just a simple plug poking out from the carpet.
