Hmm.. That would give me an excuse to upgrade to the Diamond Pistons to run more boost....
OR Dan, just spend the same amount of money on a S3 intercooler, and have an awesome cool charge, and not have to worry about your pistons anymore =)

Since Regular Gas contains a low, double-digit percentage of Ethanol ... which contributes to Detonation and Pre Ignition ... I'd say that running Higher Octane is a very good idea.
My Bike was "Pinging" pretty badly on the 10~12% Ethanol ... so, I quit running Regular in it and moved-up to High Test.

If you are running Regular Gas and hear the engine Knocking ... just remember this. THAT "Knocking" ain't opportunity. It's BAD news for the Engine Parts.

You actually don't hear the engine knocking, really. It's doesn't sound like you are thinking, in which you can actually hear the cylinder pre-detonating. But regardless, go Premium =)

I would go premium and that will leave out any worrying about blowing the engine because you never know if you need to gun it to avoid an accident.

Not to hijack, but Keegan - I noticed in your sig you are going to run the GenV and the S3 intercooler, did they guys at ZZP garauntee that they will fit under the hood?

I always put Sunoco 94 octane in my 04 Supercharged SS. Firstly because of what the others have mentioned about how expensive a damaged engine is to fix or replace. But also I like the extra "oomph" I get from the higher octane.
In reality, the oomph comes from the higher compression piston chambers and not the gas.

Low grade gas explodes faster and easier than high grade andgives more oomphto low compression engines.

It takes a lot more compression to get the high grade to fire properly.

The reason you don't get the oomph with low grade in the high compression engines is because the gas fires to quickly or 'pre-detinates,' thus the pinging.

So like goldilocks, the regular is "too hot" or too oomphie for your car where the premium is "just right."

They didn't guarantee it, but it appears after reading alot about the other monte's running the Gen V's, none of them have installed the S3, to my knowledge. So I will more than likely be the guinea pig... But since ZZP is going to be installing it, I figure if it doesn't clear, they can install the extra cradle spacers... And if that doesn't work, I'll have them cut the insulation in the hood to get her home until I can get a local guy to fab up a cowl hood for me....

I actually moved the date to end of May, as military stuff will interfere until then... But I am extremely, EXTREMELY excited to bolt on over 100 WHP in just two days. =)

---- End Thread Hijack, Although I noticed the original question asker hasn't replied to this post for over a week-----

hmmm with my 350 and the mods done to it i only put in premium as well... i tried to start it once off of regular grade gas, i had run out of gas and threw some from a near by persons house, who had a lawnmower, in it, and the damn thing wouldn't even start, and i mean i put like 2-3 gallons in the tank... so i would reccomend the premium...

That's why cars that run on regular don't see an improvement on power or performance by running premium. What they DO see is a quality difference. They will go from crap generic gas to top tier premium, and say it runs better. IT DOES! They went to top tier gas! Even cheap premium is better than the junk regular.
Side note: Our shop janitor just had his Bronco II towed from the shop. Too much water in the gas, and it wouldn't run. Everything froze. He's been running brand S, the CHEAP stuff, and buying it in the town where he lives. I've been running BP Amoco gas for about 20 cents a gallon less for regular than what he is paying, and I have ZERO problems with water (knock on wood). Is the cheap gas cheap if you have to keep adding dry gas and fuel injector cleaner to keep it running? I haven't bought a can of dry gas in YEARS! I run a can of SeaFoam once a year, just because.
My 2 cents.

The main reason that premium shows some improvement on lower compression engines is that premium has more detergents to help keep the engine cleaner.

You can do that cheaper with a bottle of $2.00 addative every handful of fillups.

In reality, you loose gas mileage with premium on a "regular" engine because some gas goes unburned.

Many website I've been on report a couple of miles more per gallon with regular than with premium on low performance engines.

Now with VVT and VTEC, premium is no longer necessary for performance.

X2. The detergents clean up the gunk that develops on the valves and helps the car run better. You can also run some E20 through and that will clean it up a bunch as well.
