I've found a 99 SS for about $600 , color purple, that runs, I haven't seen it yet, but pics look pretty good ( meaning undamaged body ) Interior needs work.
This machine worth the effort ?

 

Not exactly sure what the car is because there was no SS for 95-99; the Z34 was the top trim level. Maybe share some of the pictures so we know what we're looking at? All that stuff aside, if you like that body style and it's worth it to you that's all that matters.

 

06mistreSS is correct the z-34 was the SS version of the 5th Gen Monte Carlo era. However I have cloned the one I have into an SS.
Some folks prefer the 6th Gen or a 4th gen Monte Carlo over the 5th Gen style.
I cannibalized 7 or more Monte Carlos to get mine the way I wanted it to be. Went to several U pull it salvage yard lots and was able to find the upgrades I needed. I would have not even tackled this project had the car shown any rust. But I got it when it had about 30K on it and owned it ever since. Still overall is pretty good ride.

I also have a pic that shows the SS in front of the back wheel, and the man selling it says it has an SS on the dash, I'm guessing they might have made a few
at the tail end of 99 as an intro for 2000, seller also says it has the 3.8

 

Trust us on this; there was no official Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS made for the 1999 model year.
Z34, yes (although it should've been called a Z38...);
SS, no. Fans just made their own freestyle versions with SS logos, body kits, and stuff.

The Motor Trend article was written in 1999, but was testing a brand-new 2000 model-year MC SS.

^ Yes, that's exactly what the article is. The article was written in Nov. of 1999 (which is well into next model year talk time) and the headline reads "A New Chevy Coupe For The Good OL' Boys" which means it's the new 6th generation debuting in 2000.

@Skatulaki - No 5th gen was sent away by GM, from the factory, with an SS badge on it - Z34 was the top sport trim. That pic you have is just someone's attempt to slap an SS decal on the side and try to pass it as an SS - the SS font looks generic and it has the freaking base model LS wheels on it. I find it hard to believe that the guy has paperwork or anything other than his word to verify his claim. Hell, I could slap a ZR1 badge on my 06 and tell people it's a rare edition.

 

Ive mentioned this car a LONG time ago and I think I got into some heated arguments back in the day over this SS..

There has been a guy by me trying to sell one of these for about 10 years and it just sits out in his front yard, wasting away, rusting away..

 

Unfortunately false badging is common in the car world. For example, there are a lot of people who slap "intimidator" or 3 logos on these cars and try to pass them off as "Dale Earnhardt" editions.

 

Yah! I am guilty of that.
However for years and years I took so much Sh*t about what the real one did and then being mistaken for him some many times.
But still being civil to all his Loyal Fans. I am going to go ahead and give a blessing to it on my car.
this trend all began in the Cloning of Automobiles, A fiend of mine owns a 63 Chevy Impala it has the SS badges and Trim. However the one thing that they failed to change was in the Steering wheel the Super Sport, and the trim inside the Dash Speedometer panel each Corner. I owned a real one and remember what was all there.
You may even call them a RestoMod which kinda began with the Eleanor Mustang from gone in 60 seconds and it has continued in trends of cars all over.
Dale E. Chevy had there own signature series Cars and they have also created an Intimidator Camaro back in 2016 I believe. Kool ride for sure.
Here is a sticker that friends made up for my car and it has it right below the window on the drivers door, this does get some attention when I am driving. Lol
I do have several of the 5th Gen dealer Brochures and could scan them and let you see. The differences
