In Ohio if your car is 25 years or older you can get historical plates for it. Only restriction is it can not be a daily driver which mine is not. So for $25.45 I walk out the door with historical plates and I never have to pay for license plates again. It does pay to be old.

 

And no more eChecks. Unless you're in a county that doesn't already require it. I'm waiting for mine to hit that mark just for eCheck purposes.

 

I just bought 2 sets for our cars. $35 once here in Michigan, if you have correct year plates and tags, otherwise it's $25 (I think) for 10 years only. I bought nice sets of plates and tags for $16/car, and we only need 1 per car, so I have spares, just in case.

 

The good news is, if I ever restore my '84 Camaro, baby gets Historical plates too

That is a perk, and honestly, it takes a LOT IMO to get a car to that status and still running.

 

do you guys have to have classic insurance to get the historical tags? i think thats the deal here in nj.

 

Hopefully I have a car old enough for classic plates someday. My father in law has both of his original 1971 plates on his cutlass. He kept them in the barn since he took them off so they still look new.

 

My fiance's 92 Z28 has a couple of more years to go to qualify for Antique plates here in IL.

 

I'm gonna have Lola when she becomes a classic atleast thats the plan. She's already 16 and does not have to pass emissions tests. (but the exhaust has to stay OEM AND HOLE FREE)
