do it, the older montes are actually montes. rear wheel drive, have body lines, actually hear the motor and can feel the control in ur wheel. the montes now are nice and all, but they are like all other cars....front wheel drive and round. they dont look unique at all.....older cars have appeal. my opinion.

I'd still take my round fwd car over a 3rd gen. The 6th gen does have body lines, and the interior is a heck of a lot nicer. And it doesn't look like a Caprice.

I'd take a 4th gen over all though.

p.s. youre not alone im also obsessed with monte carlos. i want to own one of each gen.
100% agreed. After ownign an 85 Impala and an 86 Iroc Z Camaro I can say old cars are a LOT of work to not only keep ont he road but to store. Stock both my 85 and 86 cars were slower than my Monte. I'm not a fast and furious type by any means but a 350 big block in my camaro sounded beastly but if I was just going off of sound that owuldnt be a good reason. If a Superchraged Monte came up to me and just had glasspacks and sounded weaker but my car was straight piped and sounded meaner I'd hate to have to back it up because I know I'd get smoked lol. Anyway my experiance with my camaro was even thought the body had been all redone the rest was original, and everytime I turned aorund there was something that needed work until one day the motor just gave. Maybe just my experiance but my '86 was a pain to even start with all new wires and brand new battery I'd go out some days and it wouldnt even turn over. Old cars are nice but a lot of mait.

miswrote something the rest was not original since the original was a 305 and i had the 350 but my point is same engine era from a different car.

well it sounds like u guys have had sum bad luck. i drove my monte everyday for 8 years straight, and over 200 miles on the weekends and the only thing i ever had to do was change my oil. the motor and rear end have been replaced on mine, but that was before i drove it daily. the turbo 350 tranny is original and has 230,000 miles on it and still running strong. i like the newer montes, but no where near the older ones. and owning any car requires maitinence.....and as for the interior looking nice, well duh....its a new car, not from the 70s. ud hope its nicer. and put my monte next to a caprice, sorry....its not even close. caprice is a hell of a lot bigger and more of a box. im not trying to dog anyone who owns a newer monte, all power to ya, just not my thing owning a car that everyone does and that looks like a ford taurus!
