Default Opinion please

I am thinking about selling my 2004 Supercharged SS. I am wanting to buy a 1985 Monte SS in great condition. What do you think?

Sell me the wheels and grille if you do? LOL

That's a hard decision that I wouldn't want to make lol.. You have an awesome Monte. That would be hard to get rid of in my opinion lol. But the 85 SS you pictured does look pretty sweet too

I am thinking hard about it. I do like my 2004 but I miss the rumble of a small block out the exhaust. I have my eye on a 383 stroker small block that will drop right in the 85.

If he sells you his grille, would you sell me your grille? hahaha

As for the original post, that 85 looks real nice. I say if you really like it, go for it. A rear wheel drive V8 monte sure would be fun

I'm not gonna bore you with a request to pick apart your 6th gen. I know exactly what you mean. I love my Monte. But would love to have a classic 4th gen. 4th gens are my favorite. If I was able to, I'd add a 4th gen to my driveway.

i originally typed up a huge rant about this, but i trimmed it down. your looking to swap your car for one almost 20yrs older? i think its a bad move. the 4th gen ss cars arent worth anything unless theyre an aerocoupe with 0 miles on it, and even then they arent worth anything. not to mention though its a v8 rwd monte your current monte would destroy it in every category from performance to storage. if youre going to throw in a 383 youre going to want to do a trans, rear, and suspension work. now the car is worth even less since its not original. if you were really obsessed with 4th gen ss cars you could buy a straight v6 car and do your build, slap a ss nose and spoiler on it, and it would be the same for way less than a real ss. if you just want to throw a 383 in there without any other work itll probably still be slower than your 04. i say keep your car, and buy a v6 as a project car, or a straight roller. build it over time have the best of both worlds.

p.s. youre not alone im also obsessed with monte carlos. i want to own one of each gen.

If anything, I would say keep your 6th Gen and add a 4th Gen in the future. Don't get rid of your 2004.

I agree with the others, I say keep your current monte, you will love the creature comforts for long drives and looks. If anything, buy a really cheap 4th gen and add it to the collection. You can find them for under 3k with a 350 already in them, I mean they will by no means be perfect, but if you want something to mess around in, why ruin a perfect car?

I agree with you Taz. 4th gens are my favorite too. I had one exactly like the one in the pic years ago. I have wanted another one for a long time. My 2004 isnt my daily driver.I probably havent drove it more than 2000 miles in the past 2 years. I already have the 2004 Monte, a Pontiac Bonneville as my DD and a 1985 SWB Chevy 4 x 4 pickup that is being painted right now. I really dont need a 4th car. So thats why I will be selling the Monte. The 4th gens are alot of fun to drive being rear wheel drive. Plus you cant beat the sound of a v-8 coming out the exhaust. So next weekend I will be going to look at that 4th gen SS. More than likely it will be coming home with me.
