Technically speaking, White and Black (along with gray and brown) are not colors. They are "Neutrals". Speaking from my freshman Fine Art classes.... :p
Don't get technical in color theory with a designer 
There are multiple applications of color, to consider an absence of color is one, to mix a 256 for the primaries to make black is another.

I find it interesting that the red car on the left is a real car, and the blue car on the right is a die cast model. :p
