At least where I'm at (Kansas) the 93 octane doesn't have 10% ethanol in it.
In the winter - the 3.1 MC seems to start better using 93. Otherwise, I don't see any
power increase. The 93 should keep the valves cleaner.

In my '70 C-10 with 350/300H.P. -- Oh yeah... I really see a difference in that!

big difference in acceleration. and i swear by it
If there is that big of a difference, then I would think something is wrong with your engine- if it knocks that bad on 87 for you to feel a difference on premium.

You can get the laptop program and scan your car for knock retard (when the engine detects premature detonation of the fuel I believe.)
Autotap is one of these programs. A little cheaper option is to buy one of those Aeroforce scan gauges- they display two parameters at a time, and can display pretty much all of the stuff any scan program can- and they are only like $200. IMO for those who should be really worried about knock (ie the supercharged people) this is very well worth it for monitoring KR. For the NA people, IMO you're better off finding someone online to scan it for you once or twice just to make sure you're ok with the octane you're running- since some KR on an NA 3800 isn't really that big of a deal.

It's true guys, i did feel a little something when i put 93 octane in my Monte, it did feel faster through acceleration, no joke. I use Shell gasoline (dont know if that'll make a difference lol) but i really did feel more "power" i guess you could say. But its winter so it's kind of useless lol, waiting till summer haha. I live in the Lockport area in IL.

although there was some what more of a difficult start sometimes in the cold. Like it would definitely start up but it would turnover about 2-3times more then is usually does before it starts.

You do not need high octane\premium fuel unless you have an engine that requires it. I have to run 92 octane in my camaro, due to it having 11:1 compression and about 500HP to boot. If I don't it will ping like a SOB, and the computer will back the timing way off.

Octane doesn't give your car more power for say. Octane rating does not relate to the energy content of the fuel. It is only a measure of the fuel's tendency to burn in a controlled manner, rather than exploding in an uncontrolled manner(pre-detonation which is really really bad). It is required in high-compression\high-performance engines because the piston squeezes the air\fuel mixture a lot harder than your regular passenger car engine.

If the lower octane gas is used in a high-compression engine, it can and will in a lot of cases detonate before its supposed to in the cylinder. This can cause major engine damage(holes in pistons, etc.)

In the modern age of computer controlled cars, the computer will protect the engine by backing the ignition timing down to prevent pre-detonation. If I put 87 octane in my Camaro, it will run and drive but have way less power not run that great due to the computer backing the timing off to protect itself.

IF you are feeling a difference with fuel octanes then you have a problem with your engine. End of story.

Putting higher octane in is just a bandaid.
