Finally got my engine assembled and too the Dyno today. I'm very impressed with the torque numbers. I knew it had some good power (441 HP / 501 ft lbs) but didn't imagine what it presented. I was very close to my estimate on HP ,only off by 5 HP. I have to fix one timing cover gasket leak before I put it back in the car. Once it's in I can finally reassemble the rest of the body ( newly painted parts) and be back on the road.

Would you mind reminding us of the engine setup? I thought it was a SBC, but I dont remember the mods.
It's a Gen 1 400 Sbc bored to 408.7 Cid , running a mid sized flat tappet hydraulic camshaft .487/.508 lift, aluminum 200cc head's with roller rockers, cast steel crankshaft, Forged pistons 11.48 compression( 4.165 bore) changed from hyperutectic 10.3 compression and a 780cfm carb. About the only thing different is the pistons as I had that bad one causing excessive crankcase pressure. The builder and Dyno tech were rather impressed that a hydraulic cam could produce them numbers with the lift I was running. I obviously could get more power with a roller or solid camshaft, but being this is a driver not a track/racecar I'm satisfied.

Congrats, good to see your build did you right. That kind of hp will really light up the tires, fn Jeff, way to go with your rwd 6th gen. Got to love it when a plan comes together, thats crazy your estimate was only 5 hp diff, you have skilzz amigo. You did the assembly yourself, spec'd out your parts and all?
I helped with the disassembly and assembly this round. Last time I just dropped it off. My friend is a retired engine builder and part time moonshiner. He lightly honed the block for new pistons and rings. I was involved for different stages and was a still master for some of the process 😆.
I picked out all the parts, only issue we ran into was the camshaft. The one he wanted to run ((solid ultradyne) was unavailable from the supplier. We called for a week straight and got the run around. Hopefully it's the last time pulling this engine, such a pain in the @$$. I have to swap out the timing cover do to a oil leak .
But if all works out it will be installed this weekend and I'll finish putting on the new fenders and bumper. There's a test session at a local airstrip in a few weeks I'd like to attend. Last fall I was pulling high 80's in the 1/8 with wheel spin most of the way down the runway.
Thanks for the summary! Those are really good numbers - I bet that nice broad torque curve makes it real nice to drive too!
No problem Bumpin , acceleration down low pretty impressive. At highway speeds it's in the torque band and really jump's when I kick it down. Best part of the dyno session was learning the secondary's weren't opening up all the way. Something I wouldn't have figured out by just driving. Learning the tune was worth all the money, without all the information everything I'd been doing was more of a guess.
I haven't been on in ages as I had been tied up on 2 wheels (Yamaha R6) road racing and more recently took order for my 2022 ZL1 not to mention just life in general . That said, I still miss my Rytek Monte Carlo SS SLP and glad to see people still have love for these gems.
I've got a ton of parts I still have to install for the Monte....I had the M90 rebuilt and added a Gen v bearing plate which incorporates the bigger "trapped air port" which supposedly adds 10% more hp. I've totally refreshed the Wildwood brake system I have, and, next is re-paint the mpd hood...I've neglected to post updates on these items but I'll be sure to try to keep more up to date.
Those numbers I just read are bananas! I love it much!

Welcome back! Love for these cars is still alive! Not to high-jack Jeff's thread, but I actually have two interesting threads that can be fun to scroll through: https://montecarloforum.com/forum/sh...k-monte-62826/
