Default New to Montes modification help

Hello. Im new to the world of montes. In fact i come from the world of imports (mostly the diamond star section). I have owned my 2000 monte carlo with the nice 3800 for a while now and my itch to modify must finally be scratched. I know these are bullet proof engines and iv built cars for years (most of which were boosted). Iv been searching the forum but still cannot find any concrete answers. What first mods are most common and if i were to boost (most likely just a garret t25 at 10ish psi) what size pumps and injectors are common and what do people use for tuning these cars. also what does the auto transmission usally hold for power? Just basic stuff like this sorry for the long speech here. thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum!

There used to be a common first mods thread. But it got ruined by accident a long time ago. That just means all the mods info will be spread out among many threads instead of one.

Common first mods are:
  • U-bend delete
  • Complete exhaust upgrade including the downpipe
  • CAI (cold air intake)
  • Reprogrammed PCM
Then if you really want to get serious, you can either turbocharge. You can also go with the factory supercharger that was available on the 2004-2005 models. But you'll get more power out of a turbo setup.

When looking for 3800 engine parts on the net, it might be helpful to look under Pontiac Grand Prix. The Pontiac cousin to the Chevy Monte Carlo.

I'm just scratching the surface here. With the 3800 engine in your car, you're only limited by your wallet. Take a look around the forum, feel free to ask the members questions (you shouldn't get any crap from the people here for asking legitimate questions), you should find lots of info from the great people here. One tip: The search feature isn't always the most reliable. Most members here know that, and generally don't give people a hard time. But do give the search feature a try.

Anything we can do to help, ask away!

Welcome to mcf. As stated look into zzperformance also intense racing are the main company's. Then you got wbody store, 3800performance, prj etc. I have a turbo monte and I am running the cartuning performance kit. Hope this helps. If your planning on going turbo don't buy a intake, headers or down pipe because they will be eliminated or swapped for the turbo parts. Any other questions about going turbo hit me up.

Welcome! Good luck with the mods, if you got any specific tech questions shoot me a PM. If I haven't done it to mine already, I've helped someone do it to theirs.
