Default Mysterious noise that no one can seem to decipher

I have a 1998 Z34 that I bought a few months ago with a couple of problems. My main concern is this strange noise that is happening constantly, and can sometimes be silenced by turning the air conditioning on - most of the time it doesn't work though. The best way I can describe the noise is it sounds sort of like a chain dragging, although there isn't anything actually dragging underneath. Not sure if it has to do with my transmission or not, but there is also a scraping sound whenever I change gears.

Possibly its the AC clutch bearings are worn out..../ tensioner pully...etc.

If and when it finally locks up....You will no longer be able to drive it..As it will immediately snap the belt!...Over heating and no power steering, alternator will no longer be chargeing the system...etc etc...

Try useing a spray bottle with water in it....set it on stream and spray each individual bearing of the pulleys...
If the noise disappears...then you found the one thats bad!

Does it sound like this?

You can throw some wd-40 on the AC Compressor for a temporary fix, but you might have to get the clutch bearing replaced. This happened to both the Camaro and the Monte, and the WD-40 spray actually quieted it for over a year on each car.

Fortunately, for me mike..I used the supplied straw..so as to be a lot more accurate with applying it...with the motor shut off. Once I find it to temporarily lubricate it. Til im able to replace it.

But for "test" purposes...thats the very reason I use a spray bottle on stream filled with water. while its running.

You need a better mechanic. Needs and A/C compressor. Most late 90's early 2000's GM car s end up making this noise.

Try the WD-40, but start saving for the compressor
